About Norfolk County, Massachusetts
Norfolk County is a county located in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. The county seat is Dedham. The county was named after the English county of Norfolk.
The county government of Norfolk County is composed of a Board of County Commissioners, an elected body that serves as the county's legislative and executive branch. The Board is composed of seven members, each of whom is elected from one of seven districts. The Board is responsible for setting county policy, approving the county budget, and appointing county officers.
The county is also served by a number of other elected officials, including a Sheriff, a District Attorney, a Register of Deeds, a Clerk of Courts, and a Register of Probate.
Norfolk County is home to several state parks, including Wheatland Conservation Area, Fells Reservation, and King Caesar Reservation. The county also has several golf courses, historic sites, and walking/biking trails.
Public transportation includes the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), which services the Boston and Cambridge areas. Additionally, the MBTA provides bus and rail service to many of the towns in Norfolk County, as well as several ferry services in the Boston Harbor.
The county also has its own Regional Transit Authority, the South Coast Regional Transit Authority (SCRTA), which provides transportation to and from major cities and towns in the County.
