About Plymouth County, Massachusetts
Plymouth County is located in the southeastern part of Massachusetts and is the third largest county in the state. It is bordered by Bristol County to the north, Norfolk County to the east, Barnstable County to the south, and Bristol County and Rhode Island to the west. The county seat is Plymouth.
The county government is composed of a Board of County Commissioners, which is the legislative body of the county. The Board is composed of three members, each elected to a four-year term. The Board is responsible for setting county policy, approving the county budget, and appointing county officials.
The county is divided into 15 towns, each with its own local government. The towns are Abington, Bridgewater, Carver, Duxbury, East Bridgewater, Halifax, Hanover, Hanson, Kingston, Marshfield, Middleborough, Pembroke, Plymouth, Plympton, and Rockland.
The county is served by the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office, which is responsible for law enforcement and corrections. The county also has a District Attorney's Office, which is responsible for prosecuting criminal cases.
The county is home to several state parks, including Myles Standish State Forest, Wompatuck State Park, and Plymouth Long Beach. The county also has several historic sites, including Plymouth Rock, the Mayflower II, and Plimoth Plantation.
