Missouri residents can register to vote online through the Missouri Secretary of State's website at sos.mo.gov/elections/goVoteMissouri or by submitting a paper voter registration application available at the Greene County Clerk's office, public libraries, and various government offices. Registration must be completed by the fourth Wednesday prior to any election, typically 27 days before Election Day. Missouri requires voters to present identification at polling places. Acceptable forms include Missouri driver's license, state ID, military ID, passport, or other photo identification, with non-photo options available with additional documentation. Republic holds municipal elections for mayor, city council members, and other city offices on the first Tuesday in April in odd-numbered years. The mayor and six council members serve staggered terms. The next Republic municipal election will be held in April 2025 for certain council seats and again in April 2027 for other positions including potentially the mayoral race, depending on term expirations. Residents vote at assigned polling places based on their residential address. Voters can look up their specific polling location, view sample ballots, and verify registration status through the Missouri Voter Outreach Portal at voteroutreach.sos.mo.gov or by contacting the Greene County Clerk. In the November 2024 presidential election, Greene County reported strong voter turnout with approximately 65-68% of registered voters casting ballots, consistent with typical turnout for presidential elections in southwest Missouri. The county has historically leaned Republican in most federal and state contests. For the November 3, 2026 general election, Republic and Greene County voters will decide several important races. Missouri does not have a U.S. Senate seat up for election in 2026 (Senate races occur in 2024 and 2028), but voters will elect all Missouri State House of Representatives members including the district(s) serving Republic, currently District 138 and portions of neighboring districts depending on recent redistricting. County-level offices up for election in 2026 include Greene County Commission seats, Greene County Clerk, Recorder of Deeds, Sheriff, and various other county officials on four-year cycles. Depending on the cycle, some judicial retention elections for circuit and appellate judges may also appear on the ballot. Missouri voters will also decide any statewide ballot measures or constitutional amendments proposed for the 2026 general election. Voters casting absentee ballots can do so either by mail (must request application from County Clerk, return completed ballot by Election Day) or through in-person absentee voting at the Greene County Clerk's office starting two weeks before any election. Missouri allows no-excuse absentee voting. Public election records available through the Greene County Clerk include voter registration lists (available for purchase for political purposes at statutory rates), campaign finance reports filed by candidates and committees (searchable online through the Missouri Ethics Commission at mec.mo.gov), candidate filing information and financial disclosure statements, certified election results by precinct, and historical election data. Precinct-level results for Republic's voting precincts are published after each election and available on the Greene County Clerk's website. Missouri law (Chapter 115 RSMo) governs election procedures and public access to election records, with most election administration documents considered public records subject to the Sunshine Law.
