Roanoke County, Virginia is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Roanoke Region of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Its county seat is Salem. The County is part of the Roanoke, VA Metropolitan Statistical Area and is located in the Roanoke Region of Virginia.
Roanoke County is governed by a seven-member Board of Supervisors. The board is elected from seven magisterial districts. The board appoints a County Administrator to carry out its policies and to oversee the day-to-day operations of county government.
The county's economy is largely based on manufacturing, retail, and services. Major employers include Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke County Public Schools, and the City of Roanoke.
