Runnels County is governed by a four-member Commissioners Court, with each member representing one of the four precincts in the county. The Commissioners Court is responsible for setting the county budget, levying taxes, and setting county policy.
The county is also served by a County Judge, who is elected to a four-year term. The County Judge is responsible for presiding over the Commissioners Court, as well as serving as the county's chief executive officer.
