Sabine County is located in the East Texas region of the state of Texas. The county seat is Hemphill. The county is part of the Nacogdoches, Texas, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county was created in 1837 and organized in 1858.
Sabine County is governed by a four-member Commissioners Court, with a County Judge presiding. The county is also served by a Sheriff, Tax Assessor-Collector, County Clerk, District Clerk, and County Treasurer.
The county is home to the Sabine National Forest, which covers approximately 163,000 acres. The county is also home to the Toledo Bend Reservoir, which is the largest man-made body of water in the state.
