Lucie County is located in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Florida. The county seat is Fort Pierce.
Lucie County comprises the Port St. Lucie, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Port St. Lucie, FL Combined Statistical Area. It is home to the St. Lucie County Fairgrounds, which hosts the annual county fair. It is also home to the St. Lucie Mets, a minor league baseball team.
The county government consists of a five-member Board of County Commissioners, elected from single-member districts. The Board is responsible for setting policy and enacting laws and regulations. The County Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the county. The county also has a Sheriff's Office, which is responsible for law enforcement, and a Clerk of the Circuit Court, which is responsible for court records and other legal matters.
