Scott County is located in southeastern Missouri and is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The county seat is Benton.
Scott County is governed by a three-member County Commission. The County Commission is responsible for setting the budget, levying taxes, and making policy decisions. The County Commission is elected by the citizens of Scott County.
The County Commission appoints a County Administrator to oversee the day-to-day operations of the county. The County Administrator is responsible for implementing the policies set by the County Commission and managing the county's departments and staff.
The county is home to several state parks, including Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park, St. Joe State Park, and Trail of Tears State Park. Scott County is also home to several wineries and vineyards.
The county is served by the Scott County R-IV School District, which includes five elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school.
