Squires, Missouri Public Records

Missouri residents can register to vote online through the Missouri Secretary of State's website at https://www.sos.mo.gov/elections/goVoteMissouri/register. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens, Missouri residents, at least 17.5 years old (18 to vote), and provide a valid Missouri driver's license or state ID number or the last four digits of their Social Security number. The registration deadline falls on the fourth Wednesday prior to any election. Voters who move within Missouri must update their registration with their new address. First-time registrants and those updating information will be assigned to the appropriate precinct based on residential address. As an unincorporated community, Squires does not hold municipal elections for mayor or city council since there is no incorporated city government. All elections affecting local residents are conducted at the county, state, or federal level, or for special districts such as school boards and fire protection districts. Douglas County holds elections for County Commission seats, Sheriff, Clerk, Assessor, Collector, Recorder, Prosecuting Attorney, Coroner, and Public Administrator on staggered cycles. The Ava R-I School District, which serves the area, holds elections for school board members. Residents can find their assigned polling place using the polling place lookup tool on the Missouri Secretary of State's website at https://voteroutreach.sos.mo.gov/portal/ or by contacting the Douglas County Clerk. Missouri law requires voters to cast ballots at their assigned precinct polling location on Election Day unless they have obtained an absentee ballot. Polling places are typically located in schools, fire stations, community centers, or other public buildings accessible to voters in each precinct. Under Missouri's Sunshine Law (Chapter 610 RSMo), many election records are public. Voter registration lists are available for purchase for political purposes, though individual voter records including party affiliation are not public in Missouri (Missouri does not have party registration). Campaign finance reports for candidates and committees are publicly available through the Missouri Ethics Commission at https://mec.mo.gov. Candidate filing information, including declarations of candidacy and financial disclosure statements, are available through the Secretary of State for state offices and through the Douglas County Clerk for county offices. Election results by precinct are public records and posted by the Douglas County Clerk after each election. Squires-area precincts generally followed county-wide voting patterns. Missouri does not have a U.S.Current federal, state, and local election schedules, ballot contests, candidate filings, and certified results for Squires voters are published by the Missouri Secretary of State Elections (https://www.sos.mo.gov/elections). However, voters will decide races for Missouri Governor (current term expires 2025), Secretary of State, State Auditor, State Treasurer, and Attorney General, all of which are four-year terms expiring in 2025. Depending on the district configuration after redistricting, a Missouri State Senate seat may be contested. School board positions for Ava R-I may also appear on the April 2026 municipal election ballot. Missouri voters can request absentee ballots for specific statutory reasons including absence from the jurisdiction on Election Day, incapacity or confinement due to illness, religious beliefs, employment as an election authority, incarceration (if still eligible to vote), or certified participation in an address confidentiality program. Absentee ballot applications must be submitted to the Douglas County Clerk by the second Wednesday prior to the election for mail ballots, or in person up to 5:00 p.m. The day before the election. Missouri also offers no-excuse absentee voting beginning two weeks before Election Day at the Douglas County Clerk's office.
