To register, applicants must be U.S. Citizens, Kentucky residents, at least 18 years old by the next general election, and not currently declared mentally incompetent by a court or convicted of a felony unless civil rights have been restored. Valid identification is helpful but not required for registration if using other verification methods. Because Stinnett is unincorporated, there are no municipal elections for mayor or city council. Residents vote in county, state, and federal elections instead. Leslie County holds elections for County Judge/Executive, Sheriff, County Clerk, Jailer, and other constitutional offices, typically in odd-numbered years, most recently in 2022, with the next round scheduled for 2026 for some offices.
