Sutton County is located in the western part of Texas. It is in the Edwards Plateau region of the state. Its county seat is Sonora. The County was formed in 1887.
Sutton County is governed by a four-member Commissioners Court, with each member elected from a single-member district.
The county is also served by a County Clerk, District Clerk, Sheriff, Tax Assessor-Collector, and Treasurer.
The county's economy is largely based on agriculture, specifically ranching, and tourism. The county is home to the Big Bend National Park, a popular tourist destination which offers a wide selection of activities, including camping, hiking, and horseback riding. Other attractions include the Caballo Mountains State Park and the Devil's River State Natural Area.
