It is composed of four members: the county judge, who is elected county-wide, and the four commissioners who are elected by the voters in each of four precincts. The Commissioners Court is the policy-making body of the county. It meets twice a month.
The county judge is the presiding officer of the Commissioners Court. The county judge is elected county-wide and serves as the chief executive officer of the county. The county judge also serves as the presiding officer of the Commissioners Court.
The other elected offices of Tarrant County are the district attorney, county clerk, sheriff, tax assessor-collector, and constables. The district attorney is the chief prosecutor for the county and is elected county-wide. The county clerk is the custodian of all county records and is elected county-wide. The sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer of the county and is elected county-wide. The tax assessor-collector is the chief tax collector of the county and is elected county-wide.
