Wahkiakum County, Washington Public Records

Wahkiakum County is located in the southwestern corner of Washington State. The county seat and only incorporated city is Cathlamet. The county was formed out of Cowlitz County on April 25, 1854. The county is part of the Longview, Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The county government is composed of three elected commissioners, a prosecuting attorney, auditor, treasurer, sheriff, and assessor. The county is governed by the Wahkiakum County Charter, which was adopted in 1978. The county is divided into three commissioner districts, each of which elects one commissioner. The county is also served by a Superior Court judge, who is elected countywide.

The economy of Wahkiakum County is largely based on agriculture and forestry. The county also has a number of small businesses, including a few wineries. The county is served by two rivers, the Columbia and the Cowlitz, and is home to a number of marinas and other recreational areas.

The county is served by two school districts, Wahkiakum School District and Naselle-Grays River School District. The county also has a community college, Lower Columbia College.

Wahkiakum County is served by Washington State Route 4, which runs east-west through the county. There is also a ferry that connects the county to Puget Island in Oregon.

The county is served by a small regional airport, the Wahkiakum County Airport. The airport serves general aviation needs and is used for sightseeing and recreational flights.

Wahkiakum County Superior Court is amongst 39 Superior Courts with general jurisdiction across the state of Washington. This court handles criminal felony and misdemeanor cases, civil disputes, divorce filings, juvenile, adoption, probate, guardianships and more. The county clerk issues bench warrants, executions on judgments, abstracts, attachments, garnishments and subpoenas.
