Wakulla County is located in the panhandle of Florida and is part of the Tallahassee metropolitan area. The county seat is Crawfordville. The county was created in 1843 and is named for the Wakulla River, which forms its western boundary.
The county government is composed of a five-member Board of County Commissioners, elected from single-member districts. The Board is responsible for setting policy and enacting laws and regulations. The county is also served by a Constitutional Officer, the Sheriff, who is elected county-wide.
