About Wharton County, Texas
Wharton County is located in the southeastern part of Texas and is part of the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area. The county seat is Wharton. The county was founded in 1846.
The county government is organized under the Texas Constitution and is governed by a four-member Commissioners Court. The court is composed of the county judge, who is elected county-wide, and three commissioners who are elected by single-member districts. The county judge presides over the court and is the county's chief administrator. The county judge also serves as the county's budget officer and is responsible for preparing the county budget.
The county is served by a district attorney, district clerk, county clerk, county treasurer, county auditor, county tax assessor-collector, and county sheriff. The county also has several departments, including the County Extension Office, County Health Department, County Road and Bridge Department, and County Parks and Recreation Department.
