About Yakima County, Washington
Yakima County is located in the south-central region of Washington State. It is the second most populous county in the state, with a population of 243,231 as of the 2019 census. The county seat is Yakima, and the largest city is Yakima. The county was created in 1865 and is named after the Yakama Nation.
The county government is composed of a three-member Board of County Commissioners, elected at-large to four-year terms. The county is divided into seven commissioner districts, each represented by one commissioner. The county also has a number of elected officials, including a sheriff, prosecutor, auditor, treasurer, assessor, and coroner.
The county is home to several state parks, including Yakima Sportsman State Park, Yakima River Canyon State Park, and Umtanum Creek State Park. The county is also home to several national forests, including the Wenatchee National Forest, Gifford Pinchot National Forest, and Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.
The county's economy is largely based on agriculture, with apples, hops, and wine grapes being the primary crops. Other industries include manufacturing, retail, and tourism.
