First-time voters who registered by mail without providing identification must bring photo ID to the polls. As an unincorporated hamlet, Atlanta doesn't hold separate municipal elections. Instead, residents participate in Town of Cohocton elections for town supervisor, council members, town clerk, and other local offices. These elections typically occur in odd-numbered years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. County races for Steuben County Legislature representatives and county-wide positions such as Sheriff, District Attorney, County Clerk, and County Treasurer appear on the ballot as well, generally in odd-numbered years for county offices and even-numbered years for state and federal positions. Polling places are typically set up in accessible public buildings like fire halls, community centers, or municipal buildings within each election district. New York makes numerous election records available to the public. Voter registration lists can be inspected, though individual applications containing signatures and identification remain protected from routine disclosure. Campaign finance reports for state and local candidates are maintained by the New York State Board of Elections and searchable online at https://www.elections.ny.gov/CFViewReports.html. Candidate petitions, committee filings, and ballot access documents are also public. Following certification, the county publishes election results by district, town, and county on its website and through the state Board of Elections. The county, like much of rural upstate New York, generally favors Republican candidates in most races, though outcomes vary by individual contest. All 213 seats in the New York State Legislature - 63 State Senate seats and 150 State Assembly seats - will be contested, including the district seats representing Steuben County. Voters will also elect members of the U.S. House of Representatives for their congressional district (the county currently falls within New York's 23rd Congressional District).
