Alabama residents can register to vote online through the Alabama Secretary of State's website at www.alabamainteractive.org/sos/voter_registration, or by submitting a paper application to the Mobile County Board of Registrars. The registration deadline is 15 days before any election. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens, Alabama residents, at least 18 years old by election day, and must provide either a valid Alabama driver's license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number. As an unincorporated community, Axis has no municipal government and holds no city elections for mayor or council positions. Residents participate in county, state, and federal elections instead. Mobile County Commission elections follow a regular cycle, with commissioners elected from five single-member districts. Axis falls within one of these districts, and voters select their district commissioner along with countywide officeholders. Polling place assignments can be found using the lookup tool at myinfo.alabamavotes.gov, where voters enter their name and date of birth or address to locate their assigned precinct. Early voting takes place at the Mobile County Probate Court office beginning several weeks before each election. Election records in Alabama are largely public documents. Voter registration lists are available for purchase by qualified requesters under Alabama Code § 17-4-30. Campaign finance reports for state and local candidates are filed with the Alabama Ethics Commission and searchable online at ethics.alabama.gov. Candidate qualifying information is maintained by the Probate Court for county elections and by the Secretary of State for state races. Precinct-level results become public records posted on the Mobile County Probate Court website after each election and on the Secretary of State's website for statewide contests. In the November 2024 presidential election, Mobile County reported voter turnout of approximately 54% of registered voters, with detailed precinct results available through the Mobile County Probate office. Looking ahead to the November 3, 2026 general election, voters in the area will decide several significant races. Alabama will hold elections for Governor (the governor's term expires in January 2027), all Alabama constitutional offices including Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, State Auditor, and Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries. All 140 seats in the Alabama Legislature (105 House seats and 35 Senate seats) will appear on the ballot, including the state representative and state senator representing Axis's legislative districts. Mobile County will also hold elections for county offices including Mobile County Commission seats that are up in the 2026 cycle. The U.S. Senate seat currently held by Alabama's Class 2 senator will not be on the 2026 ballot (next election 2026), but the Class 3 seat is scheduled for 2028. Voters should check with the Mobile County Probate Court closer to the election for confirmed candidate lists and any local ballot measures. Absentee voting in Alabama is available to qualified voters including those who will be absent from the county on election day, those with physical illness or infirmity, those working required work shifts of 10 hours or more that coincide with polling hours, college students, and others meeting statutory qualifications. Absentee ballot applications can be downloaded from the Alabama Secretary of State's website or requested from the Mobile County Absentee Election Manager at the Probate Court. Completed applications must be submitted to the Absentee Election Manager, and absentee ballots must be returned by the close of polls on election day. Alabama requires voters to provide a photocopy of valid photo ID with their absentee ballot application. Absentee ballots can be returned by mail or delivered in person to the Probate Court office.
