Sheriff & Law Enforcement. Brooke County Sheriff's Office is responsible for law enforcement in the unincorporated areas of Brooke County.
Police Departments. Brooke County is served by several law enforcement agencies, including Brooke County Sheriff's Office and municipal police departments such as the Wellsburg Police Department and the Follansbee Police Department. Each department is responsible for law enforcement within its jurisdiction, with the Sheriff's Office covering unincorporated areas and the city departments focusing on their respective municipalities.
Law Enforcement & Arrests. Law enforcement in Brooke County is primarily provided by Brooke County Sheriff's Department, Wellsburg, WV 26070. Brooke County Jail, operated by the Sheriff's Department, houses inmates awaiting trial and those serving short-term sentences. Booking photos are kept by the agency that made the arrest, such as the Brooke County Sheriff or a city police department in Brooke County. Ask that agency for its record. Under W. Va. Code 62-1-6a a state, county or city law enforcement agency may not share on social media the booking photograph of a person arrested for a minor offense unless the person is convicted, is a fugitive or threat, or a court orders it, and it must take a posted booking photograph down within 14 days on request after a dismissal, no indictment or an acquittal. The Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation is not covered by that section.
