Charles Mix County is located in the southeastern corner of South Dakota. It is bordered by the Missouri River to the east, the Big Sioux River to the west, and the state of Nebraska to the south. The county seat is Lake Andes. As of the 2010 census, the population of Charles Mix County was 9,129. The county is named after Charles Mix, a former U.S. Senator from South Dakota. The county is home to the Yankton Sioux Tribe, which is the largest Native American tribe in South Dakota.
