Completed ballots must be returned by 8:00 PM on Election Day either by mail, and the postmark does not count, they must be received by the deadline, or deposited in official ballot drop boxes located throughout Lake County, including locations in Lakeview and potentially in Christmas Valley or nearby communities. Voters can track their ballot status online through the Oregon Secretary of State's My Vote system at egov.sos.state.or.us/myvote. Oregon offers online voter registration through the Secretary of State website at sos.oregon.gov/voting, and residents must register or update their registration at least 21 days before an election. Registration requires an Oregon driver license or ID card number, or the last four digits of a Social Security number. Oregon also offers automatic voter registration through DMV transactions. As an unincorporated community, Christmas Valley has no municipal government and therefore no city council, mayoral, or local ballot measure elections specific to the area. Residents vote in Lake County Commissioner races, county-wide measures, state legislative races in Oregon House District 60 and Senate District 30, statewide offices, and federal elections. In the November 3, 2026 general election, voters will participate in several significant races. Oregon will elect a Governor, as current Governor Tina Kotek's term expires in 2027, making 2026 a gubernatorial election year. All five statewide executive offices will be on the ballot: Secretary of State, Treasurer, Attorney General, and Commissioner of Labor and Industries. All Oregon House seats, which carry two-year terms, will be contested, along with half of Oregon Senate seats and two Lake County Commissioner positions. There will also be a U.S. Senate race in Oregon in 2026 for Ron Wyden's seat, which is Class III. Oregon's all-mail voting system has historically produced strong voter turnout. In the November 2024 presidential election, Lake County reported approximately 67% voter turnout with about 4,200 ballots cast from approximately 6,300 registered voters county-wide. The area's portion of that turnout reflects similar participation rates. Public election records accessible to Oregon residents include voter registration lists, available for purchase for political purposes, campaign finance reports through the Oregon Secretary of State ORESTAR system at sos.oregon.gov/campaign-finance, candidate filings and statements, and precinct-level election results. The Lake County Clerk publishes election results on the Lake County website after each election, broken down by precinct, allowing residents to see how their community voted. Absentee voting is not a separate category in Oregon since all voting is by mail, but voters who will not be at their registered address during the election period can request their ballot be forwarded to a temporary address by updating their information with the Lake County Clerk before the ballot mailing deadline.
