Cleveland, South Carolina Public Records

South Carolina residents can register online through scVOTES.gov/register, in person at the County Elections Office, at the Department of Motor Vehicles when getting or renewing a driver's license, or by mailing a paper registration form. The state requires registration 30 days before any election. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens, at least 18 by election day, residents of South Carolina and the county where they're registering, and not under a disqualifying court order. Voters need one of the state's accepted photo IDs: SC driver's license, DMV-issued ID card, SC voter registration card with photo, federal military ID, or U.S. Passport. County election offices provide free voter registration cards with photos for those without other acceptable identification. As an unincorporated community, Cleveland has no municipal elections for mayor or city council. Residents participate in federal, state, and county elections instead. Polling place assignments can be found using the precinct lookup tool at scVOTES.gov/find-my-polling-place by entering a residential address. Cleveland-area polling locations have historically included community centers, schools, and fire stations in the northwestern part of Greenville County. Public election records in South Carolina include voter registration lists (available with restrictions under SC Code §7-5-170), campaign finance disclosures for candidates and political action committees (accessible through the SC Ethics Commission at ethics.sc.gov), candidate filing information, and certified election results by precinct available through the County Elections Office and State Election Commission. In the November 2024 presidential election, Greenville County reported voter turnout of approximately 72% of registered voters, with over 290,000 ballots cast countywide. Cleveland's precincts contributed to this total with strong participation typical of rural areas in Greenville County. The November 3, 2026 general election will bring several significant races to Cleveland and Greenville County voters. South Carolina will hold elections for all U.S. House of Representatives seats (Cleveland falls in Congressional District 3 or 4 depending on redistricting boundaries), all State House seats (two-year terms), half of the State Senate seats (four-year staggered terms), and various county offices including Greenville County Sheriff, Clerk of Court, Register of Deeds, Coroner, Auditor, and County Council seats representing districts within Greenville County. The Governor of South Carolina, elected to a four-year term in 2022, will not be on the 2026 ballot. Completed absentee ballots must be received by 7:00 PM on election day. The state does not have universal no-excuse mail voting; voters must qualify under one of the statutory reasons. Early voting is not available in South Carolina except for absentee voting under the qualifying circumstances listed above.
