Sheriff & Law Enforcement. Columbia County Sheriff's Office is the primary law enforcement agency for Columbia County, responsible for maintaining public safety in the unincorporated areas.
Police Departments. In addition to Columbia County Sheriff's Office, several municipal police departments operate within Columbia County, including the Grovetown Police Department and the Harlem Police Department.
Law Enforcement & Arrests. Columbia County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff James R. "Sid" Mathis Jr, provides primary law enforcement services for unincorporated areas and operates Columbia County Detention Center. Inmates housed at Columbia County Detention Center can be located through the online inmate roster available on the Sheriff's Office website, which includes booking information, charges, and bond amounts. Arrest records in Columbia County are public records available under Georgia's Open Records Act (§ 50-18-70 et seq.).

Under O.C.G.A. 10-1-393.5, a commercial website must remove a person's booking photograph at no charge within 30 days of a written request in eight listed circumstances, such as charges never referred for prosecution, dismissed, or ending in acquittal.
