Douglas County is located in the state of Nebraska and is the most populous county in the state. It is located in the eastern part of the state and is bordered by Sarpy County to the south, Washington County to the north, and Dodge County to the west. The county seat is Omaha, which is also the state's largest city. As of the 2010 census, the population of Douglas County was 517,110, making it the third most populous county in the United States. The county is named after Stephen A. Douglas, a U.S. Senator from Illinois.
The county government is composed of a Board of Commissioners, which is responsible for setting policy and overseeing the county's budget. The county is divided into seven districts, each of which is represented by a commissioner. The county also has a number of departments, including the Sheriff's Office, the Health Department, and the Public Works Department.
