In the November 2024 presidential election, Litchfield County reported approximately 133,000 registered voters with turnout around 78-80%, reflecting Connecticut's typically strong voter participation in presidential cycles. For the November 3, 2026 general election, Gaylordsville and Litchfield County voters will decide several significant races: Connecticut's gubernatorial election (Governor Ned Lamont's term expires in 2027, so the 2026 election will determine the next governor); all five U.S. House seats representing Connecticut districts (Gaylordsville is in Connecticut's 5th Congressional District); all 151 Connecticut House of Representatives seats and all 36 Connecticut Senate seats; Secretary of State, Treasurer, Comptroller, and Attorney General; and potentially local New Milford referenda or special questions. Connecticut does not have a U.S. Senate seat up for election in 2026 (Senators Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal have terms expiring in 2029 and 2028, respectively). Absentee ballots in Connecticut are available to voters who will be absent from town on Election Day, have illness or physical disability, religious beliefs preventing secular activity on Election Day, or active military service. Applications must be submitted to the New Milford Town Clerk's office either by mail or in person; emergency absentee ballots are available for sudden illness or disability. Connecticut significantly expanded absentee voting access during the COVID-19 pandemic, and recent state constitutional amendments have maintained broader access. Voters can request absentee ballots online through the Secretary of State portal or by submitting a written application to the Town Clerk. Completed absentee ballots must be received by Election Day (postmark is not sufficient) or delivered to designated ballot drop boxes by 8:00 PM on Election Day.
