Great Bend, New York Public Records

Residents can register to vote online through the New York State Board of Elections at https://voterreg.dmv.ny.gov/MotorVoter/, which allows eligible citizens to complete their registration electronically. New York law requires registration at least 25 days before an election, whether submitted online or postmarked by mail. Acceptable identification includes a New York State driver license or non-driver ID, and applicants must provide the last four digits of their Social Security number. As an unincorporated hamlet, Great Bend doesn't hold its own municipal elections for mayor or city council. Instead, local governance comes from the Town of Champion, which holds elections for Town Supervisor, Town Council members, Town Clerk, Highway Superintendent, and Town Justice. These town elections take place in odd-numbered years on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November, with the next round scheduled for November 4, 2025. County-level races for Jefferson County Legislature, County Clerk, Sheriff, District Attorney, and County Coroner also occur in odd-numbered years. Polling sites are typically schools, fire stations, or community centers, with Great Bend voters historically assigned to locations in the Champion-Copenhagen area. Election records available to the public include voter registration lists, which come with certain restrictions under Election Law Section 5-216, as well as campaign finance disclosure reports filed with the state board and searchable at https://publicreporting.elections.ny.gov. Candidate petition filings and certified election results by district are also accessible. The ballot will include the race for Governor of New York, a four-year term with incumbent Kathy Hochul eligible for re-election. All 150 seats in the New York State Assembly, including the district seat representing the Great Bend area in Assembly District 116, will be contested in two-year term races. Nineteen of the 63 New York State Senate seats will be up for election, including District 48 which covers Jefferson County. Local county positions such as members of the Jefferson County Legislature may also appear on the ballot depending on district staggering. No U.S. New York voters can request absentee ballots for any reason through the Jefferson County Board of Elections by submitting an Absentee Ballot Application available at https://www.elections.ny.gov/NYSBOE/download/voting/Absentee2020Ballot-English.pdf. Applications must be received by mail no later than seven days before the election or submitted in person by the day before the election. Voted absentee ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received within seven days afterward to be counted.
