Hamilton County is located in the southeastern part of Tennessee and is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. It is the fourth most populous county in the state, with a population of 376,067 as of the 2019 census. The county seat is Chattanooga.
The county was established in 1819 and named after Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the Treasury. Hamilton County is governed by a 21-member County Commission, which is headed by a chairman. The county is also served by a mayor-council form of government.
