Hawaii Inmate Search at a Glance
Hawaii runs a unified correctional system under the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, which took over the prisons and jails from the Department of Public Safety at the start of 2024. There are no county jails: the community correctional centers on Oahu, Maui, Hawaii Island and Kauai serve as the jails, and the Halawa Correctional Facility, Waiawa and Kulani hold sentenced prisoners. Because the islands run short of beds, a large share of Hawaii's sentenced men are housed at the Saguaro Correctional Center in Eloy, Arizona, a private prison under state contract.
The Department does not run a public inmate locator of its own. Custody status is provided through VINELink, which Hawaii calls SAVIN, and it covers everyone in state custody, including the people held in Arizona.

Police holds and local custody in Hawaii
The Honolulu Police Department, the Maui Police Department, the Hawaii Police Department on the Big Island and the Kauai Police Department hold arrestees in their own cellblocks until bail is set. Anyone who stays in custody goes to the community correctional center for that island, on Oahu the Oahu Community Correctional Center in Kalihi, and appears in VINELink after intake. Each police department posts arrest logs, and Honolulu publishes its booking log daily.

What Hawaii inmate records show, and what stays private
Hawaii's Uniform Information Practices Act, chapter 92F of the Hawaii Revised Statutes, makes the basic custody record public and the conviction record searchable through eCrim, which returns convictions but not arrests that ended without one. The Department does not publish booking photographs. Medical and mental health records, classification and disciplinary files, and the Paroling Authority's confidential case material are closed. Non conviction arrest data is available only to the subject and to agencies with statutory access.

Parole, probation and release in Hawaii
Hawaii sentences most felonies to an indeterminate term, and the Hawaii Paroling Authority sets the minimum term at a hearing soon after commitment, then decides parole once the minimum is served. Parole officers of the Paroling Authority supervise releases, while probation is handled by the Judiciary's Adult Client Services Branch, so probationers appear in court records rather than in custody records. The judgment and sentence are filed with the circuit court of the island where the case was heard.
