Registration is available online at https://voter.svrs.nj.gov/register, in person at the Hudson County Board office or motor vehicle agencies, or by mailing a voter registration form. The state requires registration at least 21 days before any election. New Jersey does not require voter ID for those who have previously voted in Hudson County; first-time voters who registered by mail may need to show identification. The city holds nonpartisan municipal elections for mayor and nine council seats—six representing individual wards and three elected at-large—on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November during odd-numbered years. November 2025 will bring the next municipal election, with all council seats and the mayor position on the ballot. Ravinder Bhalla has served as mayor since his 2017 election. Residents can locate their assigned polling place through the New Jersey Voter Registration Search at https://voter.svrs.nj.gov/registration-check, which also displays sample ballots and polling hours, typically 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Public election records include aggregated voter registration statistics (not individual addresses), campaign finance reports filed with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission at www.elec.nj.gov, candidate petition filings, and precinct-level results published by the Hudson County Clerk after certification. During the November 2024 presidential election, Hudson County saw strong Democratic turnout with more than 200,000 votes cast and roughly 62% voter participation; Hoboken itself exceeded 65% turnout among registered voters. Looking toward November 3, 2026, voters will decide several important races: all 12 New Jersey Congressional seats in the House of Representatives will appear on the ballot, the entire State Legislature (40 Senate seats and 80 Assembly seats) faces election, and Hudson County will elect constitutional officers including Sheriff and County Clerk, along with possible Freeholder positions depending on the election calendar. There is no U.S. Senate or gubernatorial race in 2026, as the governor is elected in odd years (last in 2021, next in 2025) and Senate seats were last contested in 2024. New Jersey offers universal vote-by-mail to all registered voters without requiring an excuse. Applications can be submitted online through the state portal, by contacting the Hudson County Board of Elections, or by completing forms available at www.hudsoncountyclerk.org. The County Board must receive mail-in ballot applications at least 7 days before the election. Completed ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received within 48 hours, or placed in secure drop boxes by 8:00 PM on Election Day. The state significantly expanded vote-by-mail access during 2020 and has retained broad mail-in voting options. Early in-person voting is also available at designated Hudson County locations starting 10 days before Election Day and continuing through the Sunday immediately prior.
