Idaho Inmate Search

Idaho holds its prison population under the Idaho Department of Correction in facilities south of Boise near Kuna, including the Idaho State Correctional Institution, the Idaho State Correctional Center and the Idaho Maximum Security Institution, plus the Pocatello Women's Correctional Center, the South Idaho Correctional Institution, the Idaho Correctional Institution in Orofino and work camps. Because the state runs out of beds, Idaho also places inmates in county jails and in an out of state private prison in Arizona.

The IDOC Offender Search covers everyone under IDOC jurisdiction: prisoners, people on parole and people on felony probation. County jails run by the 44 sheriffs hold pretrial detainees and misdemeanor sentences and keep separate rosters.

The IDOC Offender Search runs on the IDOC number or the name and returns the IDOC number, name, photograph, physical description, current location, which may be a prison, a county jail, an out of state facility or a probation and parole district, the custody status, the sentence with its offenses and counties, the parole eligibility date and the full term date. Because supervision cases are included, the search confirms releases and tells you which district office supervises a parolee.

The Ada County Jail in Boise posts an online roster with the booking date, charges and bond, and the Canyon County jail in Caldwell, the Kootenai County jail in Coeur d'Alene, the Bonneville County jail in Idaho Falls, the Bannock County jail in Pocatello and the Twin Falls County jail follow the same pattern. Some Idaho jails also hold state prisoners under contract, and those people appear in both the IDOC search and the county roster. Boise Police, Meridian Police and Nampa Police book into the county jails.

The Idaho Public Records Act, Idaho Code section 74-101 and following, makes the custody record public, and the IDOC publishes photographs, offenses, sentence dates and supervision status. Sheriffs publish booking photos with their rosters. Exempt records include medical and mental health files, the pre-sentence investigation report, classification and disciplinary records, and investigative files of the Idaho State Police. A name based criminal history check from the Idaho State Police is available to the public for a fee, with fingerprint checks for licensing and employment.

The Idaho Commission of Pardons and Parole decides parole once the fixed portion of the sentence is served, and it publishes hearing schedules and decisions. Idaho sentences carry a fixed term followed by an indeterminate term, so the offender record shows both a parole eligibility date and a full term date. The IDOC Division of Probation and Parole supervises parolees and felony probationers from seven district offices. The judgment sits with the clerk of the district court of the convicting county and is searchable through the Idaho courts portal, iCourt.

If the IDOC search returns nothing, check the county jail roster for the county of arrest, starting with Ada, Canyon, Kootenai or Bonneville, since a misdemeanor sentence or a pending case stays in the jail.
