The Kentucky State Police offers additional resources for Edmonson County residents seeking criminal background checks, so that individuals and businesses have access to necessary information for safety and employment purposes.

Kentucky residents can register to vote online at https://vrsws.sos.ky.gov/ovrweb through the Kentucky State Board of Elections, or by completing a paper application available at the Edmonson County Clerk's office, public libraries, and other government facilities. Registration deadlines in Kentucky fall 29 days before any election. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens, Kentucky residents, at least 18 years old by the next election, and not currently incarcerated for a felony conviction. As an unincorporated community without municipal government, Mammoth Cave has no city council or mayoral elections. Instead, residents vote in county-level races, state legislative contests, and federal elections. The county holds elections for County Judge/Executive, Sheriff, County Clerk, Jailer, County Attorney, and Magistrates representing county districts. Local voters can find their assigned polling place by visiting the Kentucky State Board of Elections website at https://vrsws.sos.ky.gov/vic or by contacting the Edmonson County Clerk directly. Polling places across Kentucky operate from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM local time on election day. During the November 2024 presidential election, Edmonson County saw turnout of approximately 68%, with roughly 5,800 ballots cast out of approximately 8,500 registered voters. Kentucky maintains voter registration lists as public record available for inspection, though personal information like Social Security numbers and birth dates are redacted. Campaign finance reports for state and local candidates are maintained by the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance at https://kref.ky.gov. Looking ahead to November 3, 2026, voters in the area will decide several significant races. Kentucky does not have a U.S. Senate seat up in 2026 (Senator Mitch McConnell's term expires in 2026, but he announced his retirement from leadership; the seat will be contested). Governor Andy Beshear's term extends through 2027, so there will be no gubernatorial election in 2026. However, all six of Kentucky's U.S. House seats will be on the ballot, including the 2nd Congressional District which covers Edmonson County. All 100 Kentucky House of Representatives seats will be contested, including District 22 which includes Edmonson County. The Kentucky Senate District 5 seat may also be on the ballot depending on the election cycle rotation, as Kentucky Senate terms are four years with staggered elections. County-level offices including Sheriff, County Clerk, Jailer (if terms align), and Magistrate positions may appear on the 2026 ballot depending on the specific term schedules. Kentucky voters can request absentee ballots for several reasons including being a U.S. Armed Forces member, being a student outside the county, being unable to appear due to illness or disability, or other circumstances specified in KRS 117.085. Absentee ballot applications must be submitted to the Edmonson County Clerk's office no later than seven days before the election, and completed ballots must be received by election day. Early in-person voting (excuse-not-required) is not currently available in Kentucky except under specific limited circumstances.
