These races typically appear during presidential and midterm election cycles. Precinct assignments depend on residential address. Across West Virginia, polls open at 6:30 a.m. And close at 7:30 p.m. On Election Day. Public election records in the state include voter registration lists (available to candidates and political parties under certain restrictions), campaign finance reports filed with the Secretary of State and searchable at https://cfrs.wvsos.com/, candidate filings and petitions, precinct-level results, and absentee ballot statistics. The County Clerk maintains precinct results for all elections after certification. In November 2024, Mason County recorded voter turnout between 54 and 58 percent of registered voters, consistent with participation rates in rural West Virginia counties. Recent presidential and statewide elections have shown the county trending strongly Republican. The November 3, 2026 midterm election will bring significant choices for local voters. West Virginia won't have a U.S. Senate race that year, Senator Shelley Moore Capito's term runs through 2027, and Senator Joe Manchin's seat was decided in 2024. All three U.S. House seats will be contested, however, and New Haven falls within West Virginia's 2nd Congressional District. State legislative races include all 100 House of Delegates seats (Mason County is in the 18th Delegate District) and roughly half the 34 Senate seats based on term rotation (the county is in the 8th Senatorial District). Applications must reach the Mason County Clerk by six days before Election Day for mail ballots. Completed ballots must be returned by poll closing time on Election Day to count.
