Registration requires U.S. Citizenship, being at least 18 by the next general election, residency in the precinct for 30 days before the election, and not being imprisoned for a criminal conviction. The deadline is 29 days before any election. Online registration requires an Indiana driver's license or state ID number; applicants without either can register by mail or in person at the Miami County Clerk's Office. Municipal elections in Peru follow a four-year cycle during Indiana's municipal election years (2023, 2027, 2031, etc.). The Peru Common Council has five at-large members elected alongside the mayor. Individual voter history, which elections a person voted in, not how they voted, is also public. In the November 2024 presidential election, Miami County recorded approximately 13,500-14,500 votes cast, representing roughly 60-65% turnout of registered voters, consistent with Indiana's presidential year patterns. Indiana's 2026 ballot will include elections for U.S. Senate (one of Indiana's Senate seats is up in 2026), all nine U.S. House of Representatives seats (Peru is in Indiana's 2nd or 5th Congressional District depending on redistricting), all 100 Indiana House seats including the local district representative, 25 of 50 Indiana Senate seats (depending on district cycle), and numerous county offices including Miami County Commissioner, County Council members, Sheriff, Auditor, Treasurer, Recorder, Assessor, and Surveyor positions as their terms expire.
