Tahoka voters and all Lynn County residents turn to the Lynn County Elections Administrator, located within the Lynn County Clerk's office at 1501 Avenue J (P.O. Box 937), Tahoka, TX 79373 (phone: 806-561-4274). Texas residents can register online through the Texas Secretary of State's website at www.texas.gov or submit a paper application, available at the Lynn County Clerk's office, public libraries, and most government offices, to the Lynn County Voter Registrar.
Registration must be completed 30 days before any election. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens and Texas residents, at least 17 years and 10 months old (though 18 to actually vote), and not finally convicted of a felony unless they've fully completed their sentence, including probation and parole. While Texas doesn't require voter ID for registration, voters must present one of seven approved photo IDs when casting ballots in person: a Texas driver's license, election certificate, personal ID card, concealed handgun license, U.S. Passport, military ID, or citizenship certificate with photo. Municipal elections for mayor and city council occur on the uniform election date in May of odd-numbered years, with the next regular city election scheduled for May 2025. These races determine who oversees city services, the police department, utilities, and local ordinances. Under Texas election law, voter registration lists are public records available for inspection and purchase for political purposes. Campaign finance reports for county and local candidates are filed with the Lynn County Clerk and open for public review. Candidate applications and precinct-by-precinct results are also public records maintained by the office. All statewide executive offices will be decided: Governor (incumbent Greg Abbott's term expires), Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Comptroller, Land Commissioner, Agriculture Commissioner, and Railroad Commissioners. All 150 Texas House seats appear on the ballot (the area falls in House District 83), along with half of the 31 Texas Senate seats if District 28, which includes Lynn County, is up in the rotation. County offices including County Judge, Sheriff, County Clerk, District Clerk, Tax Assessor-Collector, and county commissioners for precincts up that year will be contested. There is no U.S.Current federal, state, and local election schedules, ballot contests, candidate filings, and certified results for Tahoka voters are published by the Texas Secretary of State Elections Division (https://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/). Texas doesn't offer general no-excuse absentee voting. Mail-in ballots are available only to voters 65 or older, those with disabilities, anyone confined in jail but still eligible, or those who'll be out of the county during the entire early voting period and on election day. Applications for mail ballots must be submitted to the Lynn County Elections Administrator and received by the 11th day before election day.
