Lynn County is located in the western part of Texas and is part of the Lubbock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat is Tahoka. The county was created in 1876 and organized in 1903.

The county government is led by a county judge, who is elected to a four-year term, and four commissioners, who are elected to two-year terms. The county judge is the presiding officer of the county court, which is the governing body of the county. The county court is responsible for setting the county budget, levying taxes, and approving expenditures.

The county is served by the Tahoka Independent School District.
