Utah Inmate Search, FAQ
Why isn't the inmate I'm looking for in the state DOC database?
Possible reasons: held in a county jail, not a state prison; on probation rather than incarcerated; held on federal charges (BOP); recently released; or in a state the person moved to.
Is inmate-location data public?
Yes in most states. Basic identity, offense, and facility are public under each state's open records law. Medical, classification, and disciplinary records are not.
How do I sign up for VINELink alerts?
Search by offender name at vinelink.com, then click 'Register for Notification.' You will receive email, text, or phone alerts on release, transfer, or escape. The service is free.
How current is the BOP inmate locator?
The BOP public locator is updated daily. For very recently booked federal inmates (<24 hours), call the specific facility directly.
