Michigan offers Election Day registration, allowing eligible residents to register and vote on the same day by providing proof of residency. Residents must be U.S. Citizens, at least 18 years old by Election Day, and residents of Michigan for at least 30 days. As an unincorporated community without its own municipal government, there are no city council or mayoral elections here. Instead, residents vote for Norman Township officials including the supervisor, clerk, treasurer, and trustees during odd-numbered year August primary and November general elections. Voters can find their assigned polling location by visiting the Michigan Voter Information Center at www.michigan.gov/vote or by contacting the Norman Township Clerk or Manistee County Clerk. Norman Township residents typically vote at the Norman Township Hall. Under Michigan election law (MCL 168.1 et seq.), certain election records are public, including voter registration lists (available for purchase for election related purposes), campaign finance disclosures filed by candidates and committees (searchable at www.michigan.gov/sos), candidate filings and petitions, and precinct-level election results. Michigan voters can request absentee ballots without providing a reason under a constitutional amendment approved in 2018; applications can be submitted online through the Michigan Voter Information Center, by mail to the Norman Township Clerk or Manistee County Clerk, or in person. Absentee ballot applications must be received by the Friday before Election Day for mail delivery of ballots, though voters can request and submit absentee ballots in person through 8 p.m. On Election Day at their local clerk's office.
