County jails and local custody in Wyoming

The Laramie County Sheriff's detention center in Cheyenne posts an inmate roster with booking dates, charges and bond, as do the Natrona County Detention Center in Casper, the Campbell County Detention Center in Gillette, the Sweetwater County Detention Center in Green River, the Sheridan County Detention Center, the Albany County Detention Center in Laramie and the Fremont County Detention Center in Lander. Cheyenne Police, Casper Police and the Wyoming Highway Patrol book into the county jail of the arrest.

What Wyoming inmate records show, and what stays private

The Wyoming Public Records Act, W.S. 16-4-201 and following, makes the basic custody record public: name, number, facility, status and release date. The Department does not publish photographs or sentence details online, and sheriffs decide locally whether to post booking photos. Medical and mental health records, the pre-sentence investigation, classification and disciplinary files and Board of Parole case files are exempt. Criminal history from the Division of Criminal Investigation requires fingerprints and goes to the subject or authorized employers; the public uses the district court clerk's records.

Parole, probation and release in Wyoming

The Wyoming Board of Parole hears prisoners at the parole eligibility date, which arrives at the minimum term of Wyoming's minimum and maximum sentences, and posts its schedule and decisions. The Department's Field Services division supervises parolees and felony probationers from offices in Cheyenne, Casper, Rock Springs, Gillette, Sheridan, Riverton, Laramie and other towns. The judgment sits with the clerk of the district court of the convicting county.

Guide

When the search shows nothing

If the Wyoming locator returns nothing, check the Laramie County Detention Center roster for a Cheyenne arrest, the Natrona County Detention Center for Casper or the roster for the county of arrest, since pending cases and sentences of up to a year stay in the jail. A probationer or parolee is supervised by the Department's Field Services and appears in court records. Check the district court clerk for the case, the federal Bureau of Prisons locator for a federal case and VINELink for a recent release.
