Citizens, Oklahoma residents, at least 18 years old by the next election date, and provide an Oklahoma driver's license number or the last four digits of a Social Security number. The registration deadline is 25 days before any election. Municipal elections in Ada select the mayor and city council seats under the city's council-manager form of government, which includes a mayor and eight council members representing four wards. These elections typically occur in April of odd-numbered years, with the next one scheduled for April 2025 to fill positions whose terms are expiring. Information about local candidates, ballot measures, and polling locations is available through the City Clerk's office and the County Election Board. Residents can find their assigned polling place using the Oklahoma Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp by entering their name and date of birth, or by contacting the Pontotoc County Election Board directly. Assignments are based on residential address and precinct boundaries. The county has historically leaned Republican in statewide and national elections. Looking ahead to the November 3, 2026 general election, Ada and Pontotoc County voters will decide several important races. Oklahoma will hold elections for Governor (current term expires January 2027), all statewide executive offices including Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and State Treasurer, one U.S. Senate seat (the Class II seat currently held is up in 2026), and Oklahoma's entire five-member U.S. House of Representatives delegation. State legislative races will include elections for Oklahoma State Senate District 14 and Oklahoma State House District 22, which represent portions of Pontotoc County. County-level offices on the 2026 ballot will include County Commissioner seats (District 1 and District 3 on a rotating basis), and potentially county offices such as County Clerk, Court Clerk, Assessor, Treasurer, and Sheriff depending on term expirations. Oklahoma offers absentee voting by mail for registered voters who will be absent from their county on Election Day, are physically incapacitated, are confined to a nursing home, are caring for an incapacitated person, or work at a polling place. Absentee ballot applications can be submitted online, by mail, or in person to the County Election Board beginning 90 days before an election and must be received by 5:00 PM the Wednesday before Election Day for mail ballots. Completed absentee ballots must be received by 7:00 PM on Election Day or postmarked by Election Day and received within three days.
