Bollinger County is located in the southeastern corner of Missouri and is part of the Cape Girardeau–Jackson, MO–IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat is Marble Hill. The county was officially organized on December 21, 1851.

Bollinger County is governed by a three-member county commission, with one commissioner elected from each of the three districts in the county. The county also has a sheriff, prosecuting attorney, assessor, collector, coroner, surveyor, and public administrator.

The county is home to several state parks, including Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park, Elephant Rocks State Park, and Taum Sauk Mountain State Park. The county also has several historic sites, including the Bollinger Mill State Historic Site and the Bollinger County Museum of Natural History.
