Caroline County is a county located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Maryland. Its county seat is Denton. The county was created in 1773.

Caroline County forms a part of the eight-county Chesapeake Bay Region of Maryland and is included in its combined statistical area, which is made up of Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News, VA-NC (Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News, VA-NC Metropolitan Statistical Area) and the Salisbury, MD-DE Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The county is governed by three elected county commissioners, which is typical of county governments in Maryland.
