Registration applications must be postmarked or submitted at least 30 days before any election. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens, Texas residents, at least 18 years old, not convicted of a felony unless their sentence including parole and probation is completed, and not declared mentally incapacitated by a court. A Texas driver's license number or personal identification number is required to complete registration. As an unincorporated area, Chapman Ranch has no municipal elections for mayor or city council. Instead, residents participate in county, state, and federal contests. The community falls within specific Texas House and Senate districts, U.S. Congressional districts, and commissioner precincts for Nueces County. Voters can locate their assigned polling place using the online lookup tool on the Elections Department website or by calling 361-888-0216. Early voting locations and schedules are announced before each election. Public election records in Texas include voter registration lists, which are available for purchase for political purposes, campaign finance reports filed with the Texas Ethics Commission at www.ethics.state.tx.us, candidate applications and filings, and precinct-level results. Individual voter history showing whether someone voted, though not how they voted, is also public information. In the November 2024 presidential election, Nueces County recorded approximately 67% turnout among registered voters, with over 103,000 ballots cast out of roughly 154,000 registered voters. The November 3, 2026 election will bring critical races for Chapman Ranch and Nueces County voters including the Texas gubernatorial race as Governor Greg Abbott's term expires in 2027, all 150 Texas House seats, half of the Texas Senate, statewide offices including Attorney General and Lieutenant Governor, Nueces County offices such as County Judge, Sheriff, District Attorney, County Clerk, Tax Assessor-Collector, County Commissioners for specific precincts, and judicial positions. U.S. Senate seats for Texas are not up in 2026, with Ted Cruz's seat next contested in 2026. Texas maintains restrictive absentee voting rules. Mail-in ballots are only available to voters 65 or older, those with a disability or illness, those confined in jail but eligible to vote, or those who will be outside the county during early voting and Election Day. Applications for mail-in ballots must be submitted to the Nueces County Elections Administrator and received, not just postmarked, by the 11th day before Election Day. Completed ballots must be received by 7:00 PM on Election Day, not simply postmarked by that date.
