A case can involve more than one law; the Fair Labor Standards Act row counts every FLSA case, and the overtime and minimum wage rows are its parts.
How to use it
What this record is and is not
Search by the employer's name, then read its page: every investigation the Division closed, the law each one involved, the back wages agreed and the workers paid, and the civil money penalties assessed. Each page says what the record means and where to file a wage claim in that state, and links the city and county public records pages.
What the file is: every compliance action the Wage and Hour Division concluded since fiscal 2005, as the Department publishes it, refreshed about quarterly. What it is not: claims filed with a state labor office, private lawsuits, settlements outside the Division, and anything the Division has not closed. Back wages are computed at the federal minimum wage of $7.25 and federal overtime; a state with a higher minimum would put the same hours higher. A case is a finding by the Division, not a court judgment, and names are written as the Department recorded them.
Who gets a page: an employer with a violation found and two or more cases, ten thousand dollars or more in back wages, or a civil money penalty. An employer below that line sits in its state and city tables. A business filed under a person's own name gets no page. Every county, sector and employer figure is summed from the case rows, and a table that cannot place a case prints it in a last row rather than dropping it.
Straight answers
Questions about wage theft records
What is wage theft?
Pay a worker was owed and did not get: a minimum wage not paid, overtime not paid, tips or hours taken, a final paycheck withheld. The Wage and Hour Division investigates it under the federal laws listed on this page; the states have laws of their own.
How do I check an employer?
Pick the state above and type the name. The employer's page shows every case the Division closed and what each one found. A name can appear under more than one spelling, so try a shorter part of it, and try the city's table on the state page.
My employer is not on the record. Is that good news?
Not on its own. The file holds only federal investigations the Division closed. State claims, lawsuits and settlements are elsewhere, and most wage theft is never reported at all.
Can I get back wages the Division collected?
If the Division collected back wages and could not find the worker, it holds them. The Workers Owed Wages search on the Department's site lets you look for your name and employer.
How current is this?
The Department refreshes the file about once a quarter; this cluster reads the snapshot dated April 22, 2026, whose latest closed case is from March 2026.

Where this record comes from
The record comes from the Wage and Hour Division compliance action data published by the U.S. Department of Labor, snapshot dated April 22, 2026 and read on November 5, 2026. The Wage and Hour Division made the findings, and its page on how to file a complaint is the federal route in every state.
