Residents can register to vote online through the Arkansas Secretary of State's voter registration portal at https://www.sos.arkansas.gov/elections/voter-information. Arkansas requires voters to register at least 30 days before an election. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens, Arkansas residents, at least 18 years old by Election Day, and not currently serving a felony sentence. Acceptable forms of identification for registration and voting include an Arkansas driver's license, state-issued ID card, passport, military ID, or concealed carry permit. Arkansas law requires voters to present photo identification at the polls under Arkansas Code Annotated § 7-5-305, though provisional ballots are available for those without ID. As an unincorporated community, Cord does not conduct municipal elections for mayor or city council, as there is no city government. Voters participate in Independence County, state, and federal elections instead. County offices up for election include County Judge, Sheriff, County Clerk, Circuit Clerk, Assessor, Treasurer, Coroner, Surveyor, and Justices of the Peace representing local districts. The Independence County Quorum Court members, who serve as the county legislative body, are also elected by district. Voters enter their name and date of birth or address to view their assigned precinct and polling location. Early voting is available at the Independence County Clerk's office and designated early voting centers beginning 15 days before Election Day, including the Saturday and Sunday before elections. Arkansas election records available to the public include voter registration lists, available for purchase for political purposes under Arkansas Code Annotated § 7-1-101, candidate filings and financial disclosure statements, and campaign finance reports searchable through the Arkansas Secretary of State's Financial Disclosure portal at https://financial-disclosures.sos.arkansas.gov. Precinct-level election results and absentee ballot applications are also maintained by the Independence County Clerk and the Arkansas Secretary of State. Arkansas will hold elections for statewide constitutional offices including Governor (four-year term), all four U.S. House of Representatives seats (two-year terms), and all state legislative seats in the Arkansas General Assembly, with House of Representatives and Senate districts carrying two- and four-year terms respectively. Independence County offices on the ballot in 2026 will likely include County Judge, Sheriff, and other countywide constitutional officers, depending on term schedules. Justices of the Peace and Quorum Court members for the area's district may also be elected. Voters may face ballot measures on constitutional amendments or local tax issues. Arkansas voters can request absentee ballots if they will be unavailable on Election Day due to work, illness, disability, military service, or other qualifying reasons under Arkansas Code Annotated § 7-5-402.
