The Kanawha County Clerk's Office adds another layer of historical documentation, housing deeds, mortgages, and various real estate documents that trace the ownership history of properties throughout the community.

West Virginia residents can register online at https://ovr.sos.wv.gov/Register, the official Secretary of State portal, or submit paper applications to the Kanawha County Clerk's office. Registration must be completed 21 days before any election. To qualify, applicants must be U.S. Citizens and West Virginia residents, at least 17 years old (turning 18 by the general election), not currently serving a felony sentence, and not under legal finding of mental incompetence. However, all three of West Virginia's U.S. House seats will appear on the ballot, with local voters participating in their designated congressional district race. All 100 West Virginia House of Delegates seats will be contested, along with approximately 17 State Senate seats (half of the 34-member chamber on staggered four-year terms). County-level offices appearing on the 2026 ballot depend on current term expiration schedules; the Kanawha County Clerk can provide specific information about county races. West Virginia doesn't hold gubernatorial elections in 2026; the next governor's race comes in 2028.
