Is an old working under a property here?
The mine records hold 1 named mine site inside the city or town limits, 0 of them worked out or abandoned.
A point in either file is a location, not a property line: the sheet shows the opening on the surface, not the rooms under it. The record that shows what runs under a parcel is the mine map. The OSMRE National Mine Map Repository holds scanned underground mine maps and answers requests for a named mine or an area. The Office of Miners Health Safety and Training keeps the legal Mine Map Archives, the final certified maps required since the 1968 Hominy Falls disaster, at minesafety.wv.gov/historical-statistical-data/west-virginia-mine-map-archives under Historical and Statistical Data.

- WVGES Coal Bed Mapping Project (CBMP) interactive mined areasInteractive map of mined area polygons by coal bed with the linked mine maps, shapefile and geodatabase downloads; the survey says the data is not a complete record of all historic mining.
- WV Board of Risk and Insurance Management, Mine Subsidence Insurance (rules and code)BRIM runs the state mine subsidence insurance program under WV Code 33-30 and rule 115-1; the cover is sold as part of a homeowner policy by the insurer, and the WVGES homeowner guide at https://www.wvgs.wvnet.edu/www/geohaz/geohaz3.htm explains which counties require a waiver.
