Voters can register online through the New York State Board of Elections website at https://voterreg.dmv.ny.gov/MotorVoter/, which allows electronic registration for citizens with a New York State driver license or non-driver ID. New York requires registration at least 25 days before an election. First-time voters must provide proof of residence and meet eligibility requirements: U.S. Citizenship, age 18 by election date, and county residency at least 30 days before the election. As an unincorporated hamlet without its own municipal government, residents do not vote in city or village elections. Instead, they participate in Town of Roxbury elections for Town Supervisor, Town Council, Town Clerk, and other town offices, typically held in odd-numbered years on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November. The next Town of Roxbury elections will be held November 4, 2025. Voters also participate in Delaware County elections for County Board of Supervisors representatives, Sheriff, County Clerk, and other county offices. Candidate petitions and ballot access filings are public records maintained by the Board of Elections. In the November 2024 presidential election, Delaware County reported approximately 58-60% voter turnout among registered voters, with detailed results available from the Board of Elections showing precinct-level data for all contests. Looking ahead to the November 3, 2026 general election, voters in the area and across Delaware County will decide several significant races: New York Governor and Lieutenant Governor (four-year terms), New York State Comptroller and Attorney General, the New York State Senate District 51 seat (represented by Peter Oberacker as of 2024), New York State Assembly District 122 seat (represented by Scott Gray as of 2024), Delaware County Sheriff (four-year term), Delaware County Clerk (four-year term), and Delaware County Board of Supervisors representatives from each town including Roxbury. No U.S. Senate seat from New York is up for election in 2026 (next in 2028). To request an absentee ballot in New York, voters must submit an absentee ballot application to the Delaware County Board of Elections, available for download at the state Board of Elections website https://www.elections.ny.gov/VotingAbsentee.html or by calling (607) 832-5321. Applications must be received by the Board of Elections at least seven days before the election if requesting mail delivery, or the day before the election if picking up in person. New York allows absentee voting for several reasons including absence from the county on election day, illness or disability, and duties related to primary care of individuals who are ill or disabled.
