Mississippi requires voters to present an acceptable form of photo ID at the polls, including a driver's license, U.S. Passport, government employee ID, firearms license, student ID from an accredited Mississippi university, tribal photo ID, or a free Mississippi Voter Identification Card available from Circuit Clerks. Since the community is unincorporated, there are no municipal elections for mayor or city council. Instead, residents vote in county, state, and federal elections. Hancock County holds elections for Board of Supervisors (five districts), Sheriff, Circuit Clerk, Chancery Clerk, Tax Assessor, Tax Collector, and other county offices. Local voters can find their assigned polling location by contacting the Circuit Clerk's office or checking the Mississippi Secretary of State's polling place lookup at https://www.sos.ms.gov/pollingplace. Mississippi election records that are public include voter registration lists (available for purchase for political purposes), campaign finance reports filed with the Secretary of State or county election commissioners, candidate qualifying information, and precinct-level election results published after each election. In the November 2024 presidential election, Hancock County reported approximately 60-65% voter turnout with around 13,000-14,000 ballots cast out of roughly 22,000 registered voters. On November 3, 2026, Mississippi voters will decide several significant races. While Mississippi does not have U.S. Senate seats up in 2026, voters will elect all four U.S. House Representatives. Statewide offices on the ballot in 2026 will include all 122 Mississippi House of Representatives seats and half of the 52 Mississippi Senate seats (as terms are four years with staggered elections). Hancock County voters will also elect county officials if local terms expire in 2026. Mississippi offers absentee voting for voters who will be away from their county on election day, are 65 or older, have a temporary or permanent disability, are the parent or caregiver of a dependent person with a disability, or work as an election poll worker. Absentee ballot applications are available from the Circuit Clerk or online at https://www.sos.ms.gov/elections-voting/absentee-voting, and must be requested by mail no later than five days before the election or in person up to the Saturday before Tuesday elections. Voted absentee ballots must be postmarked by election day and received within five business days after the election to be counted.
