Carson County is located in the eastern part of Colorado and is part of the Eastern Plains region. The county seat is Burlington.

The county is home to several state parks, including the Comanche National Grassland, which is managed by the U.S. Forest Service. The county also has several recreational areas, including the Kit Carson County Fairgrounds, the Kit Carson County Carousel, and the Kit Carson County Museum.
