As an unincorporated community, Ledbetter doesn't conduct municipal elections for mayor or city council since these governmental positions don't exist. Instead, residents vote in county, state, and federal elections, with local governance provided by Fayette County Commissioners Court, which includes four commissioner precincts and an elected County Judge. Fayette County Commissioner Precinct elections are partisan races held during the general election in November of even-numbered years, with terms of four years. Residents can determine their specific commissioner precinct, state representative district, and state senate district through the county Elections Administrator or by using the "Am I Registered?" tool at www.texas.gov/LWVote. To find their assigned polling location, voters should visit the Texas Secretary of State's website at www.votetexas.gov and use the polling place search function, or contact the Fayette County Elections Administrator directly. Early voting for county elections is conducted at the Fayette County Courthouse and sometimes at additional locations established by the Elections Administrator, typically beginning 17 days before election day and ending four days before. Under Texas law, election records are largely public. Voter registration lists are available for purchase by candidates, political parties, and the general public through written request to the county voter registrar, subject to restrictions on commercial use under Texas Election Code Section 18.066. Campaign finance reports for county-level candidates are filed with the Fayette County Clerk and are public records available for inspection. State-level campaign finance is reported through the Texas Ethics Commission at www.ethics.state.tx.us. Election results by precinct are published by the county and available through the Elections Administrator's office following canvass and certification. In the November 2024 general election, Fayette County reported approximately 10,850 registered voters with turnout of approximately 67%, reflecting strong participation typical of presidential election years in Texas rural counties. Looking ahead to November 3, 2026, Ledbetter and Fayette County voters will decide multiple significant races. At the federal level, Texas will elect all 38 members of its U.S. House delegation, though U.S. Senate seats are not on the ballot in 2026 (next Texas Senate race is 2026 for interim appointments or 2028 for regularly scheduled). State-level races will include all 150 Texas House of Representatives seats and 16 of the 31 Texas State Senate seats (senators serve staggered four-year terms). Under Texas Election Code Chapter 82, mail-in ballots are available only to voters who are 65 or older, disabled, out of the county during the early voting period and on election day, or confined in jail but otherwise eligible. Applications for mail ballots must be received by the Elections Administrator no later than eleven days before election day, or for annual applications from voters 65+ or disabled, by the deadline specified in the application. Completed applications should be mailed to the Fayette County Early Voting Clerk, 151 North Washington Street, Room 105, La Grange, TX 78945. Voted ballots must be received by 7:00 PM on election day or postmarked by election day and received by 5:00 PM the following business day.
